This war threw tens of thousands of people, entire families, onto the roads, leaving everything behind. Laurent’s special envoy desbonnets is live from Medikaa Polish city on the Ukrainian border. Poland claims that 100,000 Ukrainians have arrived on its soil.

“It’s a huge movement of solidarity that is taking place with volunteers flocking to offer food or transport or accommodation solutions to all these refugees.“, indicates the special envoy Laurent desbonnetsat Medikaat the border Poland-UkraineSaturday, February 26. The authorities have set up nine accommodation centers and they are renewing their welcome message:Anyone who comes to the border with a Ukrainian passport or identity card can pass through and return here to Europe”reports the special envoy.It is a little comfort for these refugees after a path of exodus which is particularly agonizing for them“, he asserts.

Indeed, in a freezing night, dozens of Ukrainians stuck in a huge traffic jam left their car and walked to the Polish border, more than 20 km away. Others were able to cross the border by bus. Volunteers distribute water, chocolates and cakes. A little further on, men offer to transport refugees to other Polish towns. Poland is not the only country affected by this exodus. Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova and Romania where satellite images show tens of kilometers of cars and trucks heading for the border. There are a lot of old people and women with children. Ukrainian men aged 18 to 60 are indeed called to fight.
