Once again this year, readers turned out for the event On August 12, I’m buying a Quebec book, which was in its 11th year.e edition. And at the top of the best-selling books sat Duplessis Streetby Jean-Philippe Pleau, The Ink Boyby Marie-Christine Chartier, as well asAsbestosby Sébastien Dulude.
The initiative launched in 2014 has thus made it possible to multiply sales of Quebec books by 11, compared to the four previous Mondays, according to data from the Société de gestion de la banque de titres de langue française (BTLF).
The organization, which tracks sales in independent bookstores, noted a “spectacular” rush for Quebec novels, whose sales were 17 times higher than usual. In comics and youth, we are talking about sales multiplied by seven and by six respectively.
On the Renaud-Bray/Archambault side, sales of Quebec books have almost quadrupled compared to a “normal” Monday in August, notes Floriane Claveau, communications director.
Not only does the movement not seem to be slowing down, she adds, but we are also seeing titles that are not new releases among the top 10 sellers – either What I know about you (by Eric Chacour), Where I hide (by Caroline Dawson), The version that no one cares about (by Emmanuelle Pierrot) and May our joy remain (Kev Lambert).
