(Montpellier) Félix Auger-Aliassime reached the quarter-finals of the South of France Open on Thursday, winning 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (4) against Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.
Third seeded, the Quebecer faced the player ranked 83e to the ATP.
The Canadian prevailed even though his rival dominated 12-6 for aces and 5-4 for breaks.
Auger-Aliassime was also the victim of seven double faults, while Cazaux was limited to two such blunders.
“It was a crazy match,” said FAA, quoted by the ATP website. Arthur was tough on serve and played superbly when he needed to. I was playing really well, but he raised his level.
