The Canadian massacre continued on Wednesday evening. After Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic and Gabriel Diallo, it was Vasek Pospisil’s turn to pack up and leave.
The veteran in fact withdrew in the first round of his first-round duel against the American Sebastian Korda.
In a duel that took place on Rogers Court, at the same time as Félix Auger-Aliassime’s match, Pospisil retired after only three games. It was then 2-1 Korda.
The 34-year-old player had said he was in good health during his press briefing on Sunday.
According to images circulating on social media, Pospisil appeared to be hit in the lower body.
Ranked 610e Pospisil had been given one of Tennis Canada’s four exemptions into the tournament. The same was true for Raonic, who also withdrew for medical reasons.
For his part, Alexis Galarneau did not have a pass, unlike the last two years. He therefore had to go through the qualifications, where he was beaten in the second round.
For Korda, this short outing comes at just the right time. The son of Petr Korda is returning from the tournament in Washington, where he won the final on Sunday.
