OM will host the Philadelphia Orchestra next season

The Philadelphia Orchestra will perform at the Maison symphonique on April 19, 2024 under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin as part of a special concert for the new season of the Orchester Métropolitain. The chef will lead the 4e Symphony by Florence Price and the 2e Symphony by Rachmaninoff.

The OM concert at Carnegie Hall on March 6, 2024 will be run in for the season opener on September 16, 2023 with Bruce Liu in the 2e Concerto of Rachmaninoff, while Yannick Nézet-Séguin will measure himself against two monuments during the season, the 7e Symphony of Shostakovich and the 6e Symphony ofe Mahler, and will lead the Messiah at Notre-Dame before Christmas.

Nicolas Ellis gives up his position as “artistic collaborator” to Naomi Woo, assistant at the Winnipeg orchestra and noticed by Yannick Nézet-Séguin during his first orchestral conducting academy.

Elim Chan, Glass Marcano, JoAnn Faletta and Ariane Matiakh are the four conductors invited for the major concerts. Andreas Ottensamer and Kensho Watanabe, their male counterparts, will almost bring the balance close to parity this season.

The Orchestra highlights a “strong female presence with four guest conductors and five female soloists” and “the importance of Aboriginal culture with the creation of a work by Cris Derksen, composer of Cree origin, and a program featuring to the music of First Nations tales”. There are also two “Family Concerts” of chamber music told by Barbada de Barbades, a famous drag queen from Quebec.
