Paris 2024 is correcting the situation. Part of the boxing events of the Olympic Games will take place in Seine-Saint-Denis, franceinfo learned on Tuesday June 21, 2022. The Villepinte exhibition center is the preferred site for installing the rings, initially planned on the Suzanne Lenglen court at Roland-Garros. However, the finals will be held well at Porte d’Auteuil.
If the discussions continue, it is already certain that the Olympic boxing tournament will be held in the department. For Stéphane Troussel, the president of the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, it is a “favorable solution“, boxing being part of “of the territory’s DNA“.
The land of Les Essences de La Courneuve, a former army site whose depollution costs 12 million euros, wins, in compensation, the start of the para-marathon as well as the cycling event open to all. Other disciplines also return to Seine-Saint-Denis: sitting volleyball, fencing for the modern pentathlon as well as para-cycling in Clichy-sous-Bois.
