(Sopron) Kayla Alexander had 15 points and 13 rebounds to help Canada defeat Hungary 67-55 on Thursday in the women’s Olympic basketball qualifying tournament.
Bridget Carleton added 18 points for the Canadians, who are ranked fifth in the world. Natalie Achonwa and Shay Colley both scored 10 points.
Dorka Juhasz had 13 points for Hungary, 19e in the world.
The competition is one of four Olympic qualifying tournaments with 10 of the 12 spots at stake for the Paris Games in 2024. The United States and France are the only teams already qualified.
Spain and Japan are the other two countries participating in the four-team tournament, along with Canada and Hungary. The top three nations in the tournament will qualify for the Olympics.
Canada will face the Spanish on Thursday.
