The employees of the Olympic Park in Montreal have given themselves a five-day strike mandate, to be used at the appropriate time, to denounce the reorganization of their schedules which notably provides for extending the work week to seven days.
“In total, more than 400 workers could find themselves on strike this summer and affect the holding of the ten events planned for the summer season,” warned the Federation of Public Service Employees-CSN (FEESP- CSN) in a press release on Monday.
This five-day strike mandate voted by the workers affects many trades, including administrative and technical staff, building maintenance staff and professionals such as engineers and lawyers.
Other strike votes will take place in the coming weeks, it was said.
The main demands of employees revolve around the protection of working hours.
“I have four children and I’m not the only one with obligations that mean I need a stable job! The work schedule is an important achievement for the workers, we will defend it, ”explained Nouhoum Doumbia, president of the Syndicate of technical offices of the Olympic Park.
“Not everyone can work evenings and weekends, depending on the new vocations given to them by the employer,” added Stéphanie Gratton, interim president of the Federation of Public Sector Employees.
