The women’s 4x100m relay from the 1976 Games, which caused quite an upset by beating the East Germans, and the men’s sledge hockey team from the 2002 Games were also admitted to the Hall.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for June 24 at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Museum.

This is the first cohort since 2019 and prior to that there had been no inductions since 2012. This resulted in a slate of many candidates deserving of their place. Among those whose names were on the ballots but who did not make it include Bode Miller, Julia Mancuso, Dawn Staley and two-time Olympic wrestling gold medalist John Smith.

Led by Phelps, winner of 28 medals, including 23 gold, the class of 2022 won a total of 129 Olympic and Paralympic medals, including 86 gold.
