The third edition of the Europa League conference crowned Olympiakos. The Greek club, which played the final at home in Athens, snatched victory against Fiorentina in extra time (1-0) on Wednesday May 29.
At the end of a very closed match, not to say boring, the Moroccan Ayoub El Kaabi, revelation of the competition (11 goals in 9 matches) scored the winning goal by throwing himself on a cross in the 116th minute. The achievement was validated despite the intervention of the VAR, who came to check a possible offside. The hold-up was perfect for the players of the Spaniard José Luis Mendilibar, harmless during the rest of the match and even rather dominated by the Florentines (53% possession, 17 shots to 6).
When Olympiakos gets their hands on the first European trophy in their history and gets a ticket for the next Europa League, Fiorentina suffers a second disappointment in the final of the competition. Already in 2023, the Viola had been crucified in the final moments, West Ham winning in the 90th minute on a late goal from Jarrod Bowen. She will have to start from scratch next season, going through the play-offs to try her luck again in this same Europa Conference League.
