Olympe de Gouges, François Rabelais, Wajdi Mouawad… Discover the subjects that the first year students worked on

Kick-off of the 2024 baccalaureate. Some 535,000 general or technological first-year students took written French on Friday June 14. In detail, the test, which will begin at 8 a.m., concerns 390,129 candidates in the general route and 145,294 in the technological route.

In the general stream, students had to choose between a text commentary ofEdward, novel by Claire de Duras published in 1825, or one of the three dissertation topics proposed on the theme of “poetry from the 19th century to the 21st century”. Lhe students in the technological sector can opt for a text commentary fromAnima, by Wajdi Mouawad, published in 2012 or for a contraction of text associated with an essay. For this last option, candidates have the choice to work on Gargantua by Rabelais, The characters of La Bruyère or the Declaration of the Rights of Women and Citizens by Olympe de Gouges.

The French written test has a coefficient of 5 in the general and technological sections. This writing will be followed by an oral French exam, also with a coefficient of 5 and which covers the same texts. The dates of the oral exam are set by each academy. The number of texts on the program for this test has been reduced from 20 to 16 this year in general.

The final year students will begin the written exams for the baccalaureate on Tuesday morning with philosophy. They will then take the specialty written tests from June 19 to 21, then the grand oral between June 24 and July 3.
