There weren’t many people there yet this Saturday morning, but the brand new reception at the Oloron hospital center is now ready to welcome its users. This new entrance had been under construction since the summer of 2020. ” We recover an entry located at the site of the old entry but more accessible “, explains Pierre-Yves Gillet, the deputy director of the Oloron hospital. Inside, an interactive terminal allows patients and visitors to be directed more efficiently. “It is also easier to access since the temporary entrance was at the back of the building and there is greater visibility and a better reception because the temporary premises were very cramped.”
In 2017, the Oloron hospital embarked on a global renovation program of 20 million euros. After the entrance, the next works will concern medical imaging, but also pharmacy and emergencies. All work should be completed in the spring of 2023.
The concern around the fate of the hospital still present
But despite these works, the population continues to remain worried about the future of the site, while the hospital emergency room closed for a few days in early May due to lack of doctors. “I find it a little incomprehensible to have emergencies closing when we are given a warm welcome. We could see this big construction site progressing, a wasteland… we were very scared and we are still very scared”, summarizes Francis. A new support rally at the Oloron hospital is also scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m., as part of a national emergency support movement.
