After a heavy inaugural defeat against Ireland, then a victory at the last minute against Scotland, the French XV had to show a different face against Italy, Sunday February 25 in Lille, during the third day of the Tournament of six nations. It didn’t happen, and it was even worse, with a draw that could have turned into a defeat, if Paolo Garbisi’s last-second penalty hadn’t hit the post. During this very disappointing meeting, Jonathan Danty was sent off and Matthieu Jalibert left with an injury. Relive the highlights.
7th minute: Charles Ollivon forcefully unlocks the blue counter
Fabien Galthié’s players wanted to send a message by hitting the ground running. This was done with a powerful try from Charles Ollivon (7th). After a lot of work from Cameron Woki and Paul Boudehent in front of the goal line, the captain of the day manages to flatten the ball on the line. After video verification, the try is awarded by the referee of the day, the Englishman Christopher Ridley.

40th minute: Jonathan Danty sees red and leaves France at 14
After this test, the XV of France will continue the sequences of domination, but they will never see the Italian goal of the match again. Messy, not applied, France no longer found the solutions, and even had to spend the entire second half with 14 men after the expulsion of Jonathan Danty in the 40th minute.
Just after Matthieu Jalibert’s injury, the French center received a yellow card logically transformed into red after the bunker (the video referee analyzes whether an expulsion is deserved) for a high charge on Ignacio Brex.

70th minute: Ange Capuozzo cools down the French XV
Increasingly in physical difficulty, the French ended up giving in to the reinvigorated Italians in the last quarter of the match. At the conclusion of a superb sequence initiated from their camp and which used the entire width of the field, Ange Capuozzo comes to flatten for the first Italian try, which allows the Transalpins to equalize after transformation (13-13).

80th minute: Paolo Garbisi’s incredible miss which gives the Blues an unexpected draw
The Blues probably did not imagine at the start of this match that they would be satisfied with obtaining a draw and not a defeat against Italy. However, it was the second scenario that emerged when the referee whistled a final penalty for the Squadra Azzurra in the 80th minute, while the score was tied.
In the confusion, with little time to strike, Paolo Garbisi sent the ball to the post, whose outside rebound “offered” the draw to Fabien Galthié’s men, who had already seen themselves conceded a first defeat in the Tournament against the Italy since 2013.
