This is called an unexpected sequence. Olivier Giroud found himself goalkeeper, Saturday October 7, at the very end of AC Milan’s match against Genoa in the Italian championship. After the expulsion of his teammate and compatriot Mike Maignan due to a failed outing (90th + 8), it was he who put on the gloves, his coach having already made all his changes. And the Blues striker was decisive in this totally unusual role.

He first shook on the free kick following Maignan’s foul, the ball hitting the crossbar. But we will remember that he distinguished himself on Genoa’s last opportunity, coming out perfectly at the feet of an opposing attacker to grab the leather in two stages (90th + 14). A feat of arms which earned him to be celebrated as a hero by his teammates at the final whistle, knowing that Milan won by the narrowest of margins (1-0) to take the lead in Serie A .

“When I was a kid, I loved going for goal. That’s why I went there. I felt a special emotion when I made the save, almost as if I had scored a goal. I thought I had to do it. I took my courage in both hands and went for the ball.”traced the person concerned, laughing, at the microphone of Sky Italia.
