“To preserve any form of fairness and that justice can pass, it is logical that at first” the Secretary General of the Élysée, Alexis Kohler, and the Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, “resign”estimates the first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), Olivier Faure, Tuesday, October 4 on franceinfo. “If they are exonerated by justice, they will come back”, he adds. There is a duty “exemplary”.
>> Alexis Kohler case: the retention of the secretary general of the Elysée makes creak in the opposition
Emmanuel Macron’s right-hand man is indicted for illegal taking of interests in the judicial investigation which targets his family and professional ties with the shipowner MSC. The Minister of Justice, accused of having taken advantage of his position to settle accounts with magistrates whom he had opposed when he was a lawyer, is sent to trial before the Court of Justice of the Republic.
“There is an independence of justice, but there are also means of pressure on justice, says Olivier Faure. When you are the Keeper of the Seals, when you are the Minister of Magistrates, when you are Secretary General of the Élysée, and therefore you have the possibility of acting, one can imagine that the means of pressure can be numerous.
Retention in office of Alexis Kohler, indicted: “There is a problem there. Today we have a head of state who considers justice as an adversary”, declares Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS. pic.twitter.com/qex36aVVDl

According to the boss of the PS, there is a “jurisprudence which has existed since [les anciens Premiers ministres] Pierre Bérégovoy and Édouard Balladur”, who wants an indicted minister to resign, and that “the Head of State, Emmanuel Macron, had himself recalled. “At the start of his first five-year term, he himself had landed four of his ministers who were indicted”, he points out. This time is “gone and I regret it“, adds Olivier Faure. “The rule has changed, conveniently the Head of State now considers that it no longer interests him”, denounces the national secretary of the Socialist Party. Emmanuel Macron sees, he adds, “justice as an adversary”.
