Olivier Faure visiting Avignon against superprofits

“What they don’t pay, we pay”, hammered Olivier Faure this Saturday morning in front of the Halles d’Avignon. The first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS) was visiting the Vaucluse as part ofa campaign against superprofits * and wealth inequalities. “The large companies that we helped during the health crisis are making unprecedented profits because there is a geopolitical and energy crisis. Now we have to choose to tax them to help the French and French women”, he adds. “Total makes money in France but pays nothing. We have to get them to take their responsibilities.”

During his visit, which lasted all morning, Olivier Faure went meet the people of Avignon and merchants from Les Halles. “I earn 1,000 euros in retirement, I can’t do it”, entrusts him with a retiree. “But look you have a government that tells you that it will save eight billion on pensions and during this time we do not touch the big ones. That is where the problem lies!”replies Olivier Faure.

A referendum to tax superprofits?

But a little apart two young women wonder about the place chosen for the visit: “Are those who need the most help in the Halles d’Avignon? It’s just a demonstration to prove that he is coming out or will he provide concrete solutions for those who need the most?“Several leaflets were distributed by Olivier Faure in this sense to remind a Nupes proposal to call for a referendum to tax superprofits. This is the fourth or fifth time I’ve come to Avignon in four years and I want to go as close as possible to understand what they have to say to us. This is real life”he pointed out.

The first secretary of the PS then continued with a rally in support of Iranian men and women who are fighting for their freedoms.
