Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the Socialist Party, no longer sees“obstacle” for the appointment of Lucie Castets as Prime Minister. He reacted on Monday, August 26, to Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s proposal for the Insoumis to not participate in a government led by the NFP candidate for Prime Minister.

“The pretext” used by Emmanuel Macron “which was used to refuse the nomination of Lucie Castets is lifted”he says. “By what divine right would it be possible for people who have lost an election to say who governs and who does not?” asks the deputy of the 11th constituency of Seine-et-Marne, while several elected representatives from the right and the far right have said they are opposed to a government of Lucie Castets, even without LFI. They also accuse the NFP of wanting “impose a program”with or without the presence of the Insoumis.

For Olivier Faure, “It is absurd to say that there would be a desire to impose a program”he assures. “The reality is that we will come with what the voters have proposed to us to produce, to defend, and then there will be a debate in Parliament that will allow us to find compromises, even consensus, to allow the country to know the best”continues Olivier Faure. Lucie Castets has also “proved her solidity throughout the summer, including that she was able and willing to compromise”.

As for Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint Lucie Castets in a government without LFI, “It would be an incredible, disastrous precedent to explain that from now on the head of state alone decides who will govern.”insists Olivier Faure, who reaffirms that “The Republican tradition is to name the party that came out on top in an election.”.

He dismisses the possibility of any other nomination than that of Lucie Castets, “If it is proven to me that there is a coalition that can bring people together more broadly than the NFP, then yes, we will have to comply, but I don’t see any.”he says.
