Older people, sexuality and well-being

How is the sex life of aging couples?

The University of Quebec en Outaouais (UQO) launched an unprecedented survey on the issue at the start of the year, called Couples 60+. Objective ? Move away from a classic perspective focused on problems, challenges or illness, and instead explore the “well-being” angle.

“I want to adopt a positive perspective and talk about well-being,” explains Noémie Bigras, director of the Research Laboratory on Relationships, Sexuality and Trauma (RESET). Because despite all the changes associated with aging, sexuality remains an essential component of a satisfying relationship,” she says.

Hence the importance of better understanding what contributes to this famous “well-being”, she argues, “knowing that we live longer, that people will probably stay in a relationship longer, or that they will be more likely to engage in new relationships” later. To be continued, definitely!
