In Bassan (Hérault), a retired couple discovered century-old manuscripts in their attic. On the sheet is a statement from two teenagers, who made a funny bet in WWI.

Elisabeth found in her attic an old notebook written in Indian ink. While immersing herself in reading these old documents discovered by chance, the retiree came across a card written by two teenagers, in the midst of the First World War, who made a bet on the end of War 14- 18. “I, the undersigned Sieur Lucien Balp, declare to Sieur Léon Ayrivié that the European War must end on March 17, 1917. Sieur Ayrivier undertakes to give the sum of twenty francs if this declaration is verified“, can we read there.

Sieur Lucien Balp has obviously lost his bet, within 22 months. No importance for the owners of the house, who have carefully framed their find under glass. More than a game between teenagers, this bet was the symbol of a youth who continued to hope, despite the hell of war.
