Earn a living, yes, thank you. Create madly, oh yes. The era, for young musicians, is gregarious out of obligation and the need to exult. These five are from all over the place, thank you very much. Laurent Massie, Ludovic Leblond, Gabriel Couture, Mathilde Joncas, Marc-Antoine Lavallée accompany, intersect, subdivide and multiply. A sixth sprawling rascal is trying out production here for the first time: the multi-instrumentalist Étienne Dupré (aka Duu, Klô’s accomplice). Together ? The press release for this first Oui merci speaks of “friendly art-rock/polite indie-rock”, we understand without understanding. A fascinating, melodic recreation here (Flower), modulated to the extreme there (Race car). It’s sweet and confusing, crazy and unwinding, not easy to follow and irresistible, an impossible puzzle where each piece nevertheless fits together. At the end, lulled by All hearing, almost a normal song based on tender piano, we end up in chaos. An ode to friendship and freedom, that’s what it is. OK ? Baby see you next time.
