Algerian international Youcef Atal was sentenced, Wednesday January 3, to eight months in prison for provoking hatred by the Nice criminal court. Against the backdrop of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the OCG Nice defender shared on his Instagram account in October a video of a preacher calling for “a dark day for the Jews” and to “accompany the hand” residents of Gaza “if they throw the stone”.

Youcef Atal will also have to pay a fine of 45,000 euros and publish this conviction at his own expense in the regional daily Nice morning and in the newspaper The world, clarified the Nice criminal court in its judgment. OGC Nice had suspended the player until further notice. The disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League had imposed a seven-match suspension on him.
