Emmanuel Macron is betting on wind turbines at sea. On Thursday, February 10, the president unveiled the objective of around fifty wind farms by 2050. Journalist Catherine Rougerie, present on the set of 19/20, we reveals the current balance of wind turbines in France.

“Today, there is only one wind turbine in France, off Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique) but it is a prototype”says Catherine Rougerie, present on the set of 19/20. “Eleven other parks are under construction, 7 concern wind turbines installed, that is to say installed on the seabed, and 4 concern floating wind turbine projects”details the journalsite, specifying that this should see the light of day within 5 years.

But these projects are slowed down in particular by the fishermen who multiply the demonstrations and procedures because they fear that the wind turbines will scare away the fish. Environmental advocates also point to the impact this would have on biodiversity. In addition, tourism professionals are afraid of seeing their attendance drop because of a landscape that would be denatured by wind turbines. Result: several appeals are filed, which slows down Emmanuel Macron’s project.
