In Côtes d’Armor, the Saint-Brieuc wind farm is officially inaugurated this Thursday, September 19.
They are now part of the landscape of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes d’Armor) after three years of work: 62 offshore wind turbines are now able to supply electricity to nearly 800,000 homes in Brittany. Some local residents have no trouble coexisting with the installation. In recent years, opponents of the wind farm have been strongly mobilized. In May 2022, around fifty fishermen blocked the construction site at sea to express their discontent. Since then, most of these maritime professionals have been compensated. “We are still against this project. I decided for myself not to have this money.”defends a fisherman called Le Grand Yann.
Among the opponents, a group of local residents is also furious. According to them, it is a problem of visual pollution and also for the birds that would be in this area in a migration corridor. The group hopes to have its say on future construction sites. In France, 50 offshore wind farm projects should see the light of day by 2050.
