Off-duty police officer shot dead in lobby of building in Cayenne

A 36-year-old police officer from the Anti-Narcotics Office was shot in the head in a building lobby in Cayenne on Sunday, August 25, at midday, franceinfo learned from the Cayenne prosecutor’s office.

The police officer, who had been off work for several weeks, was off duty, the prosecutor’s office said. It was a resident of the building who alerted the emergency services after hearing three shots. Only one of the shots hit the police officer.

An investigation has been opened for murder, entrusted to the territorial judicial police service of Guyana, jointly with the research section of Guyana.
