Apec, the association for the employment of executives, looks at their morale and their workload. Things have not improved since the health crisis. “She reinforced the difficulty of the position, recognizes Laetitia Niaudeau, the deputy director general of Apec. “They have the feeling of being overwhelmed, of running out of time, of being overworked, of being stressed. It is a reality that we cannot deny”she says.

They represent the company to the employees. Apec had already highlighted, a few weeks ago, that more than one executive in five, and even more among young people, had already left their post less than two years after taking office. Faced with this turnover, Laetitia Niaudeau stresses that managers have an important role to play in retaining troops. A crucial issue at a time when recruitment difficulties are at their height: 84% of companies anticipate difficult or even very difficult recruitment of executives.

Managers see themselves adding new functions or more exactly, according to Apec, certain expectations, which existed before, now weigh more heavily on their shoulders. They are the result of the health crisis and the generalization of teleworking. It is for example the animation of the collective. Well-being at work. Quality of life at work. And the development of skills among the employees they supervise. They were already expected to pay attention to all this, but in recent years these roles have been reinforced.

However, becoming a manager remains a desirable goal. despite all these constraints, 84% of executive managers want to remain so for the next five years. They even want to coach larger teams. And for employees who do not exercise a management function, becoming a manager remains an objective. They see it as a way of transmitting, a logical progression in their career. And then of course, for a quarter of them, a way to give their earnings a serious boost.
