Settling abroad to enjoy retirement and above all to gain purchasing power is what more and more French people are doing. More than a million have thus taken the plunge, particularly in Morocco, which has become the new El Dorado for French retirees.

French retirees have decided to make Morocco their full-time residence. “Here, in El-Jadida, it’s the pleasure of living. You’ve got plenty of stuff here, you’ve got the beach, you’ve got the fishing”rejoices Paul Brot, a French retiree. 2,500 kilometers from France, the coastal town and its fortified city have convincing arguments. The retired couple act as a guide for friends who have come to visit them for a few days. They are almost tempted, too, to come and put their suitcases there.

A kilo of tomatoes at 50 cents

The economic attractiveness of Morocco is a major asset for expatriates. Germain Ménard and his wife understood this as soon as they arrived. On the stalls, fresh products are present in abundance at bargain prices. “A kilo of tomatoes here is 50 cents, in France it’s 4-5 euros”explains Germain. The new clientele delights the locals. The difference in purchasing power is even more obvious in the real estate sector.
