A 38-year-old man was accused Tuesday of the murder of Jeannine Perron-Ruel, this 80-year-old woman who was shot dead in front of her residence in Coaticook, Estrie, last Thursday. The investigation is still continuing in this case.
Yanick Dostie-Pouliot was in fact formally accused of premeditated murder in the morning, at the Sherbrooke courthouse, was able to confirm Press.
The suspect and the victim were neighbors, authorities said. The man must appear by videoconference before a judge, in the afternoon, to know the rest of the legal proceedings in his case.
It was the investigators of the SQ’s Crimes Against the Person Service who made the arrest at the end of the day, Monday, after being made aware of new elements of the investigation.

The case dates back to last Thursday, around 11:30 am, when the police officers of the MRC of Coaticook were called for an 80-year-old woman “found unconscious and injured outside her residence on rue de la Rivière”. The lady was reportedly shot dead on her way home. His death, found in the hospital, had caused a shock wave among the residents of his neighborhood, all in all very quiet.
A dozen patrol vehicles had been dispatched to the rue de la Rivière on Thursday noon, while the police had erected a large security perimeter.
Potential witnesses were also met and door-to-door visits were carried out in the neighborhood. Investigators have reportedly identified cartridge cases on the ground at the scene of the crime. The investigative work could also continue despite the charges filed, in order to gather more evidence.
“It’s a super quiet corner, where a lot of old people stay. I am quite devastated to know that it is happening in our small town ”, had explained to the Journal of Montreal the mayor of Coaticook, Simon Madorre, after the tragedy, saying he was upset by the events.
