After five days of tournament, it’s time for the ritornello: there are now no more French women committed to Roland-Garros. Last tricolor representative present in the women’s draw, Océane Dodin was largely beaten by the Tunisian Ons Jabeur (6-2, 6-3), Thursday June 1, in a sparsely filled Philippe-Chatrier court. 122nd player in the world, the Northerner was no match for the seeded number 7, much more powerful and efficient.

Tunisian Ons Jabeur, seeded number 7, easily eliminated Océane Dodin despite strong resistance from the 26-year-old Lille player at the end of the game (6-2, 6-3).

For Océane Dodin, there was not really a match. In front of the stands of a central court not fully furnished, and with many Tunisian supporters, the 115 places difference in the ATP ranking between the two players was felt. Physically limited, struggling in her movements, the French completely suffered the game of her opponent (25 winning strokes and only 16 unforced errors).

far superior

Yet she tried. Broken and led 3-1 in the first set, she worked on her opponent’s serve to immediately pick up the score. In a similar situation at the start of the second set, she dismissed two game points to the cheers of the public and caught up. But these good shots were too rare to hope for more.

Because Jabeur accelerated and varied the game when necessary to put her in difficulty. When the Lille player picked up the score at the start of the second set, the Tunisian responded with a shutout. The latter will face Serbian Olga Danilovic in the third round, to try to reach the round of 16, as in 2020 and 2021, her best outings on Parisian clay.

This elimination confirms the carnage for the Tricolores Porte d’Auteuil. While three of them reached the third round in 2022 (Cornet, Jeanjean and Parry), there will be none this year, out of the 10 entered. Combined men’s and women’s draw, there is only one Frenchman left, Arthur Rinderknech, who still has to play his second round against Taylor Fritz.
