Occupied West Bank | Palestinian Authority accuses Israeli forces of driving over body

(Jerusalem) The Palestinian Authority on Tuesday accused Israeli security forces of deliberately rolling over the body of a man during a military operation in the occupied West Bank, “a brutal crime” according to it.

A video widely shared on social networks shows a military vehicle stopping in front of an inanimate body before restarting and running over it.

The Israeli army, which frequently carries out operations in the West Bank, territory occupied by Israel since 1967, confirmed exchanges of fire during an operation in the Tulkarem sector (north) and the death of “three terrorists”, but no did not comment on the images.

The Al-Aqsa Brigades, the military wing of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party in the West Bank, confirmed the death of three of their fighters.

An Israeli police spokesperson said they had launched, with other security forces, an operation in this area to apprehend a “wanted terrorist” who was arrested after being hit by gunfire.

“This heinous crime is neither the first nor the last in a series of crimes committed by the occupier and members of terrorist settler militias,” the PA Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Additionally, a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli security forces at a checkpoint near Ramallah on Tuesday after he attempted to stab a soldier, the Israeli military and the Palestinian Authority said.

Since the start of the deadly war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7, the West Bank has experienced a level of violence not seen since the second Intifada, a Palestinian uprising from 2000 to 2005. According to the Palestinian Authority, 334 Palestinians were killed there, the majority by Israeli security forces, and at least eight by Jewish settlers, according to the UN.
