The executive committee of the Russian Soccer Federation (RFU) decided on Wednesday “to support the filing of a declaration of interest” for obtaining the European tournaments of 2028 and 2032, the organization said in a press release. as the deadline set by UEFA to do so approaches.
It is not known when Russia will officially submit its bid, and whether it intends to specify the tournament it prefers to organize between that of 2028 and 2032.
“We are going to apply for the European Championships in 2028 and 2032,” said Sergei Anokhin, one of the members of the RFU, on Match TV.
Russia hosted the 2018 World Cup and the stadium used for the final — Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium — served as the staging ground last week for an event in support of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
