objective raised for Laurent Mortel, new coach of the women’s section

Last season he trained Soyaux, a resident of D1 Arkéma. Laurent Mortel has since replaced Jérôme Bonnet on the bench of the Vertes.

A summer to acclimatize to Saint-Étienne, and to prepare for this first season in D2. Relegation was almost obvious for the Saint-Etienne: their last season was cataclysmic, only one win for four draws and 18 defeats. Only 19 goals scored, against 61 conceded.

A successful preparation for the coach

The Amazons have since reassured themselves: they won three of their five warm-up matches in August (0-6 against Orleans, 1-4 against Rodez, 4-0 against Puy Foot). But the match that marked Laurent Mortel the most during this preparation was a defeat (1-0) against rivals Lyon: “We were very united in this match. We were able to score, unfortunately we did not have this success. But the fact of not accepting to take and continue to play forward .. I think that this year the game will be focused on collective control, so as to pose a problem for the opponent and to score as much as possible.

Score as much as possible, with one objective, get back to D1 Arkéma as quickly as possible. “That’s what I came for anyway,” slips Laurent Mortel. He gets down to work with a reshuffled workforce: eleven players recruited during the transfer window. They are only nine survivors of the downhill season to have extended into the offseason. Note that veteran Audrey Chaumette left AS Saint-Étienne this summer, after ten years at the club.
