In 2023, the Nutri-score ratings will change. Some products will see their rating drop, while others, such as oily fish, will be increased.

The Nutri-score, which is used to rate the intake of a food product, will change in 2023. The ratings of certain foods are revised downwards, such as red meats, which can increase the risk of colon cancer. Prepared meals and sugary cereals eaten for breakfast will also see their ratings drop. On the other hand, the notation of other foods will be revised upwards. This concerns fatty fish, rapeseed, olive or walnut oil, wholemeal pasta and bread, and pressed cheese.

However, some companies choose not to display ratings on product packaging. “Very large groups like Ferrero, Lactalis, Mars, Mondelez or Coca-Cola continue to refuse it. 875 brands, that’s about 60% of the food market”explains Professor Serge Hercberg, nutritionist behind the Nutri-score. In 2023, Europe could impose a single logo of the Nutri-score for all the countries of the Union.
