Racist acts jumped by 32% in 2023, and for anti-Semitic acts, the increase reached 284%. Personal service companies that employ employees of foreign origin also make this observation.

Like every morning, Lauris Gnimadi, a nursing assistant, comes to wash a retired woman. These two like to joke around together. But things don’t always go well for this nursing assistant of Guinean origin. Not long ago, he confided to a couple of patients what happened to him when the husband of a patient opened the door for the first time. “He said to me: ‘Did you wash your hands well, you’re going to dirty my wife’. When I finished the treatment, I said to myself that I’ll never come back again”says Lauris Gnimadi. Other caregivers complain about the behavior of some beneficiaries. Xenophobic speech seems to be freeing up.

According to a barometer, 56% of French people believe that there are too many immigrants in France. After her latest verbal attack, Lauris Gnimadi alerted her director, as did two other colleagues, who were at their wit’s end and ready to resign. The association sent a letter to its beneficiaries: in the event of racist remarks, care contracts could be terminated. This has happened twice since the beginning of the year.
