Nurses: FIQ will be in negotiations this summer

Negotiations between the Interprofessional Health Federation of Quebec (FIQ) and Quebec are not at a standstill; they will even continue this summer, both parties confirmed Thursday.

The large union organization of 80,000 nurses, nursing assistants, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists returned to the negotiating table after its members rejected the agreement in principle reached with Quebec for the renewal of collective agreements.

The negotiations therefore continue; dates have been set in June and July, confirmed the FIQ.

In the meantime, Quebec recently managed to reach a possible settlement with the Health Federation, affiliated with the CSQ. This is the union organization that represents the largest number of nurses after the FIQ, i.e. 5,000.

An intermediate body of the Health Federation is due to meet on 2 July to study this settlement hypothesis and decide whether it will be submitted to the members.

Quebec states that the agreement with the FSQ, “in addition to contributing to improving working conditions, would allow the stabilization of teams and the enhancement of full-time positions.”
