The director of a nursery in the 2nd arrondissement of Marseille and two of her employees were brought before an investigating judge on Friday, July 12, following their police custody, with a view to possible indictment, franceinfo learned from a police source and the Marseille public prosecutor’s office.
The daycare workers were taken into custody on Wednesday after parents noticed first and second degree burns on their six-month-old daughter’s body on July 3 when they picked her up from the daycare. Two other workers were arrested and released after being taken into custody.
The public prosecutor’s office, which has opened a judicial investigation into the charges of “intentional violence against a minor under 15 and failure to assist a person in danger”, will request that these three people be placed under judicial supervision, with a ban on working in a job involving regular contact with a minor. During the custody of the director and employees, investigators noted discrepancies in the interviews, a police source said.
In this case, the Marseille prosecutor’s office “specifies that at this stage neither the origin of the burns nor the responsibilities of the accused have been established. It calls on all persons called upon to comment on this case to exercise caution and to respect the presumption of innocence”. According to the first elements of the investigation, from a police source to franceinfo, the mother of the infant went to the emergency room on July 3 after picking up her daughter from the nursery. The baby had burns on his hands, legs and abdomen. According to this source, the medical examination concluded that he had first and second degree burns.
