According to preliminary information obtained by the BEI, the Montreal Police Department was called to intervene around 12:30 p.m. with a possibly armed man on Île-des-Sœurs. He was walking near the intersection of boulevard René Lévesque and rue Berlioz.

Located by a police officer, the man would have pointed his firearm in the direction of this one. The policeman would then have fired at least one shot. Seriously injured, the man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Five investigators have been assigned to shed light on the circumstances of the police intervention, the office said.

The Sûreté du Québec will act as a support police force in the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the event can contact the office via their website.

Remember that the BEI investigates when a citizen is seriously injured or dies during an event involving a police officer.
