Nunavut lifts health restrictions including mandatory mask wearing

Nunavut will lift all of its remaining health restrictions when it ends its public health emergency on Monday.

The territory’s health department says the mask requirement will be dropped and people who test positive for COVID-19 will no longer need to self-isolate.

The ministry says it will no longer report case or vaccination data, but vaccines will still be available.

The Government of Nunavut will still require masks in its workplaces and health care facilities, and private businesses will still be permitted to require them as well.

The territory’s state of health emergency has been in place since March 20, 2020.

Nunavut’s chief public health officer, Dr. Michael Patterson, says residents should always stay home if they are sick and should get vaccinated if they haven’t already been.

“While there are no more restrictions in place, COVID-19 has not gone away,” said Dr. Patterson. I encourage all Nunavummiut to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, their families and their communities. »
