We often talk about employee redundancy plans, but much less about small bosses who find themselves on the floor. It is not about managers fired by their shareholders who are unhappy with the conduct of the company, but about entrepreneurs who lose their jobs because their company is collapsing.

According to the firm Altares and the insurer GSC, which carried out the survey, the dismissals of small business owners recorded over the last six months are mainly due to supply difficulties and the loss of household purchasing power which is slowing down the consumption.

Nearly 19,000 business leaders lost their jobs between January and June, an increase of almost 30% compared to the first half of 2021. It is therefore small businesses that pay the heaviest price: three quarters of bosses forced to letting go of the bar are at the head of companies with three employees or less. Nearly 90% of the companies concerned achieve less than 500,000 euros in turnover. A real massacre when we know that it is SMEs and VSEs that create the most jobs today in France.

Job losses for business leaders aged over 50 rose by almost 40%. But it is the bosses aged 30 to 40 who are the most affected (+48% over one year). These are not technology start-ups but companies in sectors related to accommodation, catering or personal services. The building is less affected.

Finally, geographically, Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France are the most affected. Overall, this represents a real challenge for local elected representatives, regardless of the regions, whose policies and actions generally complement national aid.
