Hamas number 2 was killed on Tuesday January 2 during an Israeli strike in Lebanon. Saleh al-Arouri was in his office in the suburbs of Beirut. Hamas television confirms his death and that of five other people. The Lebanese Prime Minister accuses Israel of wanting to drag Lebanon into a new confrontation.
An explosion occurred on Tuesday January 2 in the southern suburbs of Beirut, after a strike launched by Israel. The attack targeted Hamas offices in the Lebanese capital and more particularly Saleh al-Arouri, number 2 of the Islamist movement, killed like his bodyguards. He spent 20 years in prison in the Jewish state, then was released in 2010 on the sole condition that he go into exile. He had chosen Lebanon.
An attack in a Hezbollah neighborhood
With this targeted assassination, Israel moves to the third phase of its plan after the October 7 attack: the elimination of Hamas members abroad. The movement retorts this evening through the voice of its political leaders that this strike “will not bend their resistance”. The attack took place in a neighborhood stronghold of Hezbollah, movement pro-Iranian who could feel attacked, with a risk of escalation in northern Israel. “This new Israeli crime aims to drag Lebanon into a new phase of confrontation with Israel”castigated Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
