The Chicoutimi Saguenéens, who belong to the Maritimes Quebec Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), had to remove a promotional video from their TikTok account following the controversy it sparked.
In the video, an employee promotes merchandise from the team store under the banner of “humor,” but a humor that probably won’t work in 2023.
“Now, your girlfriend has very beautiful baubles, you find them perfect, but she wants bigger ones, new ones… A Christmas bauble from the Saguenéens! It’s blue, it’s round, it’s smooth and it’s perfect.”
The team received several criticisms from supporters and removed the ad that was running on TikTok.
In addition to supporters, the video also shocked some members of the organization.

The video had been approved by the marketing team, but the director of operations of the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi, Serge Proulx, said he did not see the video before it was published.
“If we take the video at 2e or 3e degree, there is no need for reprimands,” he said. “We, as an organization, have an adjustment to make.”
Other jokes were also criticized, including one about the Remparts.
