Four days after the mess around Novak Djokovic’s medical exemption began, his lawyers claimed Saturday 8 January, that the Serbian player contracted Covid-19 last December. “The date of the first positive Covid PCR test was recorded on December 16, 2021”, they said in a document filed with federal court, which seeks to overturn the rejection of his visa to enter Australia.

On Wednesday January 5, Novak Djokovic was refused entry into Australian territory by the country’s authorities, before his visa was finally canceled. The Serb has since been placed in a Melbourne detention center, at the Park Hotel center, pending a new hearing scheduled for Monday January 10. The world number 1 has also asked to be transferred from this center, in order to be able to train before the Australian Open, his lawyers again revealed on Saturday in a request filed with the federal court to reverse the cancellation of his visa.
