Novak Djokovic and coach Marian Vajda ended their deal after 15 years and 20 Grand Slam titles on Tuesday.

The statement posted on Djokovic’s website announced that the two men “agreed to end their partnership” after the end of last season.
“Marian has been by my side for the most important and memorable moments in my career,” the statement read. Together we have accomplished incredible things and I am grateful for our friendship and loyalty over the past 15 years. Although he is leaving the team, he will always be part of the family and I cannot thank him enough for all he has done. »
During Vajda’s reign, Djokovic also worked with other coaches at various times — including Boris Becker, Andre Agassi and Radek Stepanek — as well as Goran Ivanisevic, who has been with the team since 2019, who will continue to work with the Serb 34 years old.
Djokovic and Vajda took a break from each other in 2017, but reunited the following year.
“When I worked with Novak, I was lucky to see him develop into the player he is today. I will take great pride in our accomplishments and am very grateful for the success we have had,” Vajda dropped in the statement.
The announcement comes the day after Djokovic had lost his place at the top of the ATP rankings for the first time in two years. He took the second rung, behind Daniil Medvedev. The cumulative 361 weeks that Djokovic spent at the top of the ATP is a record, as well as the fact of having finished seven seasons at the first rank.
His 20 Grand Slam titles put him tied with Roger Federer for second place in ATP history. Only Rafael Nadal, who won his 21and title at the Australian Open in January, has more.
The Serb has only appeared in one tournament in 2022 so far – a loss in the quarter-finals of the Dubai tournament last week against Jiri Vesely.
