Novak Djokovic does well in the draw, world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz much less so

The third Grand Slam tournament of the year begins Monday in London.

Novak Djokovic now knows what awaits him if he wants to win a third Grand Slam tournament this season. Just after that of the women, the draw carried out on Friday June 30 reserved for the Serb a more than affordable part of the table. Except surprise, everything should go well until the quarter-finals where he could face Andrey Rublev, before finding, possibly, Jannik Sinner or Casper Ruud in the last four. In the first round, he will face Pedro Cachin (67th in the world).

For Carlos Alcaraz on the other hand, the task looks much more difficult. The recent winner of Queens is in the same part of the table as Daniil Medvedev (3rd), Alexander Zverev (21st), Holger Rune (6th) or even Stefanos Tsitsipas (5th). For his entry into the running, he will find a Frenchman, Jérémy Chardy (534th). Moreover, in the first round, three Franco-French duels will be on the program, opposing Richard Gasquet to Corentin Moutet, Alexandre Müller to Arthur Rinderknech, and finally Benjamin Bonzi to Harold Mayot.

For the rest of the French, hope is allowed even if it will be necessary to be wary of certain seeds. Ugo Humbert will face Jason Kubler (74th), while Quentin Halys (76th) will face the number 27 seed, Daniel Evans. For his part, the young prodigy Arthur Fils will challenge, as at Roland-Garros, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (34th), while Luca Van Assche will cross swords with Aslan Karatsev (47th). In form since the start of the season on grass, Adrian Mannarino will be opposed to Alexander Shevchenko (97th).

Nick Kyrgios main danger for Novak Djokovic?

In the second part of the table, Lorenzo Musetti will have to be wary of the Peruvian surprise of the last Roland-Garros, Juan Pablo Varillas (beaten in the round of 16 by Novak Djokovic). A second half where there is also Nick Kyrgios, opposed to David Goffin in the first round. Finalist against Novak Djokovic last year, the Australian is currently in the dark (only one match played in 2023 due to a meniscus injury), but he could well find the Serb in the quarter-finals if he finds his feelings.

Note that Andy Murray will face his compatriot Ryan Peniston before, perhaps, rubbing shoulders with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round. Finalist in 2021, Matteo Berrettini will have a hard time facing his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego, while Milos Raonic, finalist in 2016 but fallen to 840th in the world rank, finds his way back to the Grand Slam tournaments against Austrian Dennis Novak (159th) .
