After a start to the week rich in speculation around the Novak Djokovic case in Australia, the Serbian expressed himself, Wednesday, January 12, in a long message posted on his social networks. Still threatened with deportation, he wished, in his own words, “correcting misinformation to allay concerns about (his) presence in Australia, and to answer questions which are of great pain and concern to (his) family.”

Novak Djokovic admitted a “error of judgment” and that he should have “reschedule the appointment” with a journalist from L’Equipe, which took place on December 18, when he knew he was sick with Covid-19. But he also assured to have “respected social distancing and wore a mask”except when the photos were taken.

Novak Djokovic also admitted Wednesday in his statement on Instagram to have committed a “human error, certainly not deliberate” by wrongly stating on arrival in Australia that he had not traveled during the 14 days preceding his flight. “My agent sincerely apologizes for the administrative error made by checking the wrong box concerning my trip”, added the world number 1. He specifies that his team “provided additional information to the Australian government to clarify this issue.” Immigration Minister Alex Hawke can still decide to cancel the Serbian’s visa. The decision should be made quickly, before the start of the Australian tournament.
