In New Aquitaine, after the fires this summer, the sawmills are trying to recycle all the wood that has been burned, when it is still possible.

It is an almost incessant broom: every day in Saint-Martin-d’Ary (Charente Maritime)about fifty trucks deliver maritime pine logs. Since the fires this summer, some of it comes directly from burned forests. Burnt wood that must be used very quickly: a real race against the clock.

Once unloaded, the wood is treated directly in the sawmill, debarked, planed and cut into boards. To guarantee the quality of his production, the sawmill manager uses a scanner to analyze the quality of the wood. At the end of this process, it is impossible to tell the difference between the floorboards, while some of them are produced from burnt wood. This summer, 35,000 hectares of forest in New Aquitaine burned. This is the equivalent of six to seven months of production.
