The #NousToutes collective is calling for demonstrations this Sunday in Paris, place du Panthéon at 3 p.m. A tribute rally “to the 100 women murdered since January 1, 2022”. “A symbolic threshold that will be crossed this weekend”, specifies to franceinfo the collective. “We don’t want to count our dead anymore!”deplores the organization.
Since January 2022, #NousToutes has produced its own count “to represent the reality of gender-based and sexual violence“. “This count, which is intended to be without discrimination, conveys the desire not to make any of the women who are murdered because they are women invisible”, underlines the collective in a press release published on Saturday. “Some were killed by a family member, others for refusing sex or because of their gender transition. Still others were driven to suicide by violent men or by the (cyber-) sexist and sexual harassment of which they were victims. All these deaths are feminicides”the statement added.
In this press release, #NousToutes denounces “the inaction of judicial services and governments”. According to the collective, the victims of violence are still poorly received today because the police “are not properly trained”. Occasionally “we don’t believe them, we minimize the facts, we return the guilt”. Justice is also criticized. “In 2020, 80% of complaints of violence within the couple are dismissed. While it is estimated that at least 213,000 women are victims of physical or sexual violence from their spouse or ex-spouse each year. We record one death every 2 days in France. 65% of victims of feminicides had seized the police or the courts, 30% of the perpetrators had been convicted of acts of violence”points out the collective.
#Noustoutes is now calling on the government for more resources to fight violence against women, including places in emergency accommodation, the establishment of serious danger telephones and more funding for the operation of 3919. “We are asking for a substantial investment of two billion euros each year to ensure that the tools already available are reinforced and correctly put in place.” “We must act before the violence takes place. It is time!”concludes the collective.
