A person was found dead Monday in the toilets of Notre-Dame hospital in Montreal.
“Everything looks like an overdose, but the investigation is underway,” indicates agent Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM). The tragedy occurred in a toilet located near the establishment’s cafeteria.
Doctors on site were quickly able to confirm the death. The police were called to the scene to secure the location while waiting for treatment. An investigation by Notre-Dame hospital is underway to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the event.
“The staff and the community are in shock and shaken,” declared the spokesperson for the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, Jean-Nicolas Aubé. At the time of writing, it was still unclear whether the victim was a patient or a visitor.
The CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal faces heavy drug circulation in the city center. The Press reported last week that residents of the Paul-Émile-Léger accommodation center were selling and consuming crack in their own establishment, and even in front of the entrance, according to occupants. The center is located a stone’s throw from what is nicknamed “crack alley”, in the heart of Montreal.
