Four men, including one in critical condition, were seriously injured after their car crashed head-on into a tree and a bus shelter in Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood on Friday afternoon .
“It made a big boom! I saw a man who managed to get out of the car on his own. But the driver and the passenger behind him … it was not going at all, “confided to the Log an employee of Baskin Robbins Creamery, who declined to identify herself.
In front of the business where she works, at the corner of chemin Côte-Saint-Luc and boulevard Grand, a car hit a tree and a bus shelter around 1:40 p.m.
“The collision involves a single vehicle. The four occupants of the car were taken to a hospital. […] The three 20-year-old passengers are out of danger. The 21-year-old driver, however, is in critical condition and we fear for his life, ”explains Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
Cause unknown
A police investigation is also underway since the circumstances that led to this accident are still unknown.
“No pedestrians were injured,” however, said the SPVM, which had installed a large security perimeter around the scene.
Our representative observed on the spot that the vehicle had been heavily damaged under the force of the impact. Pieces of bodywork were completely torn off. The doors, the roof and the wheels of the machine were also broken.
The glass panels of the bus shelter shattered. On Côte-Saint-Luc Road, traces of braking were clearly visible at the end of the afternoon.
“Gives me shivers”
“It sends shivers down my spine. It’s a family neighborhood and my kids walk through here on their way home from school. Luckily no one was in the bus shelter,” sighed Cristina Berry, accompanied by her daughter Mélina.

Emily Hogdson, who works in the area, was stunned to find that the collision happened near several schools in the area.
“On Côte-Saint-Luc, I see people driving too fast and young people running everywhere to cross quickly at the end of the day. It may be time to change the authorized speeds, ”suggests the mother of two children aged 4 and 9.
