larry (ICI TOU.TV Extra)
larry does not fit into the category of traditional detective series. Of course, this dense and brilliant work contains a breathless investigation and unexpected twists, but it incorporates comedic touches and a personal drama that colors the entire plot. All topped with psychedelic 1970s music and delivered in visual packaging evoking the classic film The French Connection by filmmaker William Friedkin. It’s downright captivating.
Hugo Dumas
The world of Gabrielle Roy (ICI TOU.TV Extra)
It’s friendly, touching and charming, not at all cheesy. Really, my biases have clouded my judgement, sorry. This slow, poetic series resembles the television adaptations that were taken from Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novels, including Anne… the house of green gables. To tan smarter, The world of Gabrielle Roy is closer to enchantment than distress.
Hugo Dumas
Baby sitter (Illico Club)
Destabilizing, daring and awkward at times (especially during a particular scene), Baby sitter is anything but a complacent film. It certainly makes us reflect on the uncontrollable and irrational aspect of desire. But be warned, you might wonder, like Jean-Michel’s character, what degree you are in. The answer: in several degrees, precisely.
Emilie Cote
Raspberry time (Illico Club)
It’s hard to describe Raspberry time with accuracy and precision. There are touches of absurdist humor interwoven with poignant moments. It’s soft and hard, funny and grating, tragic and comical. It is a finely knit story of grief, exile and inability to communicate.
Hugo Dumas
Brain 2 (ICI TOU.TV Extra)
It’s so good, Brain 2. It’s better than the first season, which was, let’s remember, very successful. It’s a clever combination of crime thriller, psychological suspense, and so-called classic medical series.
Hugo Dumas
The Blue House (ICI TOU.TV Extra)
After a checkered first season, The Blue House has really found its way to go. Its delirious sequel, currently broadcast on ICI Télé after having been offered for the first time on ICI Tou.tv Extra in the spring of 2021, makes us laugh out loud with each episode. The actors obviously have something to do with it. The pleasure with which they bite into every line by authors Ricardo Trogi and Daniel Savoie is contagious.
Marc-Andre Lemieux
The invisible children (ICI TOU.TV Extra)
What happens to children who live with a mentally ill parent? Not much, points out the documentary series The invisible children. Hosted by Varda Étienne, the show lifts the veil on the reality of these forgotten people who suffer in the blind spot of the health system.
