They are eagerly awaited by kyiv. Norway will send two F-16s to Denmark to participate in the training of Ukrainian pilots, the Norwegian government announced on Wednesday January 3. “Supporting Ukraine to establish a modern air force is an ambitious and long-term task in which a range of allies and partners are participating,” underlined the Norwegian Minister of Defense, Bjorn Arild Gram, in a press release.

Norway declared last year that, like several other countries, such as Denmark and the Netherlands, it would give Ukraine refurbished F-16s. Oslo had withdrawn them from service to replace them with more modern F-35s.

The Netherlands announced at the end of December that they would deliver their 18 “firsts” F-16, without specifying a date. Norway has not yet communicated the number of devices donated in total and the delivery schedule, but it should only be a handful of devices. The Scandinavian country is already participating in the training of Ukrainians with around ten instructors.

The Norwegian F-16s will be deployed for an as yet undetermined period at the Danish air base at Skrydstrup. The Ukrainians will be trained there as part of multinational cooperation.
